Step into February with Primroses...
When we think of Spring, we think of flowers and even though it's a bit early to put the Winter coats away there are things to plant that will brighten up any Winters day!
Primroses are one of the first bursts of colour available for the garden. They're easy to grow and easy to look after. It's no wonder primroses are one of Britain's favourite flowers with a host of colours including scarlet red, deep blue, pure white and sunny yellow! These happy flowers are at home in almost any situation from borders to planted arrangements.
Primroses flower abundantly in early to late Spring (depending on the variety) and if planted in the right location, may also have a smaller flowering period in the Autumn as well; which means you can enjoy a month or more of stunning colour to help brighten up the garden!
Planting primroses can be as simple or as complex as you like! If you want to keep it simple but still create an impact then planting in block colours is the answer. Large sections of one or two colours adds a dramatic splash of colour to an area. Mixed colour schemes can be just as effective as long as the colours chosen suit the overall scheme in the garden.
Top Tip 1 - Most like to have moist soil with good drainage in a spot that's bright but not too warm. If you have a cool sunny spot then that's great, if the spot is likely to get too warm as the weather gets better then you're better off planting them in a spot with a bit of shade.
Top Tip 2 - Remove faded flowers regularly. If you can remove the old flowers from your primroses regularly you'll not only keep the plant looking good but you'll also increase the blooming period as well!
Top Tip 3 - Certain colours look great together and can be used to make any garden or planted arrangement look amazing!
The colour wheel shown above is a great tool to use when picking colours that complement each other. The opposite colour will complement your main colour choice and look great!
