About Us
In 1952 a Company called Welsh Tree Services Ltd was formed, carrying out woodland management, plant and forestry operations. As the company expanded, they began supplying Christmas trees and then rustic furniture. As a result, a small craft shop was opened. During the late 1960s, the Company decided to grow ornamental trees. The Garden Centre was also opened and a log cabin was erected as a shop. This still stands today as a part of the new restaurant.
The early 70s saw a rapid increase in trade and a larger shop was built with offices attached. The car park was also extended. As the Garden Centre boom continued, it was necessary to build yet another new shop, office block and production shed which were opened in 1974. In 1976, parts of the Company’s operations were closed, leaving only the Garden Centre.
In 1988, the Centre was sold, and under the new ownership of Celtic Trees Plc, large-scale investment began; the shop doubled in size and a new Planteria was built. However, other new investment strategies did not fair so well and by 1991 the Company was forced to sell.
The new owner, Martin Davies invested considerable time and his retail knowledge into turning the business around. New covered areas were added, the shop area was increased again, the car park re-laid, the café gave way to a fully licensed restaurant and new franchises joined the site. Inevitably the business grew. Today the business is busier than ever, always striving to improve through the support of our tried and trusted staff giving our customers the best possible help and advice available.
New plans are afoot to double the size of the restaurant again and maybe a much needed new super shop building is just around the corner!
