From the Davies Family
Gardening, and a love of the natural world, is in the Davies family DNA. Coming from a long line of passionate horticulturists and nature lovers, offering garden expertise, exceptional quality plants and an outstanding array of products is at the core of what we do. We are proud to have created an uplifting lifestyle, plant and dining environment in an idyllic rural location, with stunning views of the Black Mountains.
We first bought the garden centre in the early 90s, at that time the site had fallen into disrepair, we saw an opportunity and sought to build the business from the roots up. In 1991 Raglan Garden Centre was formed, guided by a vision to create an experience that could offer more for the home and garden. Over the next twenty years we grew the business significantly. We increased the food offering from a 40 seat log cabin café to a 140 seat open and airy restaurant. We improved and expanded the planteria, in the shop we added a food hall, a dedicated interiors space and a pets and aquatics department. Finally new franchises joined us to complete the site. The centre gained recognition as a place of excellence by winning the GCA Best Garden Centre for Wales and the West for three years in our latter tenancy.
With a view to retirement and looking after our own garden we sold the centre to Wyevale Garden Centres in 2014. However, when the centre came up for sale in 2018 we couldn’t resist being back at the helm, we embarked on our second chapter of Raglan Garden Centre ownership in May 2019. We didn’t anticipate a global pandemic in our first full year but we are delighted that we have been able to restore the business as an independent family run centre, that serves as a destination for the local and wider community. With renewed garden knowledge, a second generation involved and a passionate and dedicated team, we are once again serving as seasonal garden and home experts offering great quality and value for money. We have already made significant investments into the fabric of the centre and plan to continue to improve the shopping experience for our patrons.
As we grow, we are conscious of our environmental impact, we have undertaken positive steps to source and operate more sustainably over the past year. We recognise the importance of gardening and the positive role it plays in a healthy life and we believe that the garden centre can thrive as a place to be enjoyed by all.
